About the ‘Centenarian’ Masjid

In the name of Allah Most Merciful Most Gracious

All praise is due to Allah; we praise Allah and seek Allah’s help and forgiveness. And we seek refuge in Allah, Most High, from the evils of our own selves. Whomsoever has been guided by Allah, none can misguide him, and whomsoever is misguided, no one can guide him except Allah.

And I bear witness that there is no god worthy of being worshipped except Allah Al-Mighty, alone, without partner or associate. I further bear witness that Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is his true worshipper and messenger, may Allah the Exalted bestow His peace and blessings upon him.

The JUMMA MASJID AMMATHI: The ‘Centenarian’ Masjid

Early History:

The ‘Jumma  Masjid Ammathi’  was established more than 100 years ago in 1910.

It has crossed the ‘Centenary’ milestone in 2010 achieving the vision of the elders in the previous generations.

According to the elders, this Masjid was built under the supervision of  Mohideen Bi a strong Muslim lady woman who used to ride horseback to visit the Masjid.

Mohideen Bi built three Masjids – Ammathi, Bilgunda, and one somewhere near Periyapatna

She was the 2nd generation of the family of the ‘Mutavalli’s’ with a passion for the outdoor and horses.

The genealogy for details, documents, and (possibly) photographs are currently underway in order to preserve the continuity of the past with the present.

It was to provide a place of worship to fulfill the needs of the small but growing Muslim families living in Ammathi town.

Under the guidance of the 3rd generation ‘Mutavalli’ (Late) Janab Mohammed Hamid Khan, the Jumma Masjid was slowly and steadily established in the town of Ammathi.

The 5th generation  ‘Mutavalli’ is Alhaj Mohaseen Ahmad Khan, under whose diligent, steady, perseverance is the present administration.

The Present – 21st Century:

MOSQUE/ MASJID:

mosque is a place of worship for followers of  Islam.

The word is likely to have entered the English language through French (mosquée), from Portugese (mesquita), from Spanish(mezquita), and from Berber (tamezgida), ultimately originating in Arabic: masjid مسجد‎ — Arabic pronunciation: [ˈmæsdʒɪd].[1] The Arabic word masjid literally means a place of prostration.

The word “mosque” in English refers to all types of buildings dedicated for Islamic worship, although there is a distinction in Arabic between the smaller masjid dedicated for the daily five prayers and the larger masjid jami (مسجد جامع) where the daily five prayers and the Friday congregation sermons are held with a high volume of attendance
